SHOW REGULATIONS
Regulations governing the conduct of the Show
Every entry for competition or for exhibition only
will be regarded as having been made subject to any
and all of the Society’s Show regulations,
conditions and provisions and every competitor or
exhibitor shall be deemed to have made the entry
with full knowledge thereof.
Exhibitors and all others concerned are requested to
make themselves fully acquainted with the following
regulations, and also those applicable only to
exhibits in the section or class in which an exhibit
is entered, to assist the Society in giving them
effect and to ensure satisfactory conduct of the
Show.
The Regulations will be strictly adhered to. The
Show Society takes all care in the production of
this Schedule of Events but accepts no
responsibility for omission or errors that may
occur.
Entry fees shall be paid at time of entry. G.S.T.
has been applied on entries in all sections.
The closing date for entries - see each section for
their closing dates.
No exhibit shall be received without a Certificate of
Entry, properly filled in, signed and delivered by
post or otherwise, to the Secretary, together with
entry fees, on or before the date of closing of
entries. The Secretary shall have power to extend
the date of entry in any section.
The Council of the Society reserves the right of
refusing or cancelling any entry without giving
reasons for so doing.
Exhibitors must deliver their exhibits to the
allotted position on the Show Grounds on or before
the advertised time, with the supplied card, stating
the class, section and the exhibit number.
Entry tickets may be issued at time of making entry,
or in special circumstances can be obtained at the
Secretary’s office at the Show Grounds, Mildura.
7 Section cards will not be issued until entry fees
are paid.
Exhibitors must not remove their entries before 9.00
p.m. on the final day of the show
without permission of the steward except where
otherwise specified in the schedule.
When ordered by the Stewards, exhibitors or
attendants on horses and cattle must take the
exhibits out to be Judged or for Parade. Exhibits
shall be subject to a fine of $4.00 in each case in
which the order of the Stewards is not obeyed.
Exhibitors of horses, cattle and sheep shall provide
their forage. All exhibitors of Equestrian Events
who make an entry and desire to withdraw same shall
notify their intention to do so in writing to the
Secretary of the Show not later than seven
(7) days prior to the commencement of the Show.
All exhibits must, except if otherwise allowed in
the Schedule be the bona-fide property of the
exhibitor and all farm and horticultural produce
must be the production of an exhibitor exhibiting
it. In the event of the exhibitor disposing of an
exhibit between the date of entry and the day of the
exhibition, he must give notice in writing of the
sale, together with the name and address of the
purchaser.
An exhibit appearing in the Show Ground, or in the
ring set apart for judging purposes prior to
judging, with any distinguishing badge or mark,
shall be disqualified.
The Society shall not be responsible for any
accident or mishap that may be caused through or by
an exhibit and it shall be a condition of entry that
each exhibitor shall not hold the Society
responsible and indemnify it against any legal
proceedings arising from such accident or mishap.

15. The Society shall not under any circumstances be
held responsible for any loss or misdelivery of live
stock or other exhibits at the Society’s exhibition.
The Society shall not under any circumstances be
held responsible for any loss by theft, fire, and
storm, damage by water, food or lightning. The
Council advises all exhibitors to insure their
exhibits against any or all of the foregoing risks.
16.The signing of the Certificate of Entry of any
animal shall be taken as a guarantee that the animal
is free from disease, as far as is known to the
owner; in case of infectious disease being spread
through or by any exhibit, the exhibitor shall be
held responsible.
Should there by any reason to suspect an exhibit is
either diseased or dangerous, the Society reserves
the right of refusing admittance to or removing the
same from the grounds at the expense of the
exhibitor.
Should any exhibit, having obtained a prize, be
disqualified the next on the list does not
necessarily obtain a prize. The Council of
Management with or without the advice of the Judges
shall decide the question.
19.The Council of Management may withhold any prize
when statements have been erroneously or
fraudulently made regarding an exhibit and
exhibitors guilty of false entry or statements may
be debarred from again exhibiting, and if members,
will be liable to expulsion from the Society.
No prize card or ribbon except those won at the
current Show shall be permitted to be exhibited on
any exhibit.
The breeding year shall date from 1st August for
horses, and for cattle, to date from day of Show.
All horses, galloways or ponies competing under
schedule heights shall be measured by the Stewards
who will issue a valid certificate and must be
provided on demand. The Society may recognize
current R.A.S.V. and E.F.A. Vic., or E.F.A. S.A.
measuring certificates.
However, in the event of a disputed measurement, the
Official measurer may call upon the Ringmaster for a
second opinion and at their discretion may order any
horse to be re-measured. The result of this
measurement shall be final and binding upon the horse
measured.
All Competitors and Showmen’s Dogs must be tied on a
short lead, no longer than two metres. No dogs will
be allowed on the arena whilst arena events are in
progress.
PROTESTS AND DISQUALIFICATION
1 No protest against an exhibit or the decision of
the Judge shall be entered unless made in writing
and lodged with the Secretary of the Society within
four hours of judging. A sum equal to 10% of the first
prize money of the section in which the protest is
made and not less than 2 must accompany each protest
and this sum shall be forfeited to the Society if
the Committee of the Society considers such protest
frivolous.
2 Protests can only be lodged by exhibitors who have
competed in that particular section.
3 The Society may, according to its discretion, fine
an exhibitor to an amount not exceeding $50 for
infringement of Rules, offensive behavior or corrupt
practices, or may disqualify an exhibit or exhibitor
for such a term or period as is considered necessary
to meet the offence.
4 Where any person, the exhibitor or exhibit is fined
or disqualified at any Show of any
Society, the Secretary of the Society shall report
the matter to the Secretary of the Victorian
Agricultural Societies Association and the Northern
District Agricultural Societies Association, who
shall forthwith notify all affiliated Societies
thereof, and thereupon, disqualification shall be
enforced at all Shows of the affiliated Societies.
Any exhibitor fined by a Society for an offence shall
not be permitted to exhibit at an affiliated Society
Show while such fine remains unpaid.
29. The Council of the Association shall constitute
an Appeal Board to take into

consideration any appeal against the decision of, or
disqualification imposed by an affiliated Society upon
any person or exhibitor or exhibit. Full particulars
regarding appeals are obtainable from Secretaries of
all affiliated Societies.
1 The name of any defaulter in regard to fees for
privileges or that like shall be posted by the
Society to the Association whereupon the Secretary
of the Association shall notify all affiliated
Societies. Any such defaulter shall be debarred from
exhibiting or obtaining privileges from affiliated
Societies until all claims have been fulfilled.
2 Where a disqualification has been imposed by an
Association in respect of trotting conducted under
the rules of the Harness Racing Board, the rules
here relating to appeals shall not apply, but the
decision of affiliated Societies shall be registered
as aforesaid and in the case of an appeal to the
Harness Racing Board, the decision of each Club
shall automatically be the decision of the Council
of the Association and shall be registered
accordingly.
PRIZE MONEY
It is the responsibility of the exhibitor to claim
prize money. Prize money for all pavilion exhibits
is available for collection at the Offices of the
Secretary, Show Grounds, Mildura during the period
of the Show. Prize money not claimed and collected
during the Show may be claimed and collected from
the Society’s Secretary either in person or by mail
up to and including the 30th November of the year in
which the prize money has been won. Prize money not
collected or claimed by the due date will be paid
only at the discretion of the Council of Management.
The Council of Management retains the right to
withhold all or any portion of the prize money not
claimed by the due date if it desires to do so.
All perishable exhibits not claimed by noon on
Monday after Show week may be disposed of by the
Society.
Should the Society postpone, alter or cancel the
Show, no refund or entry money will be
made, but same will be retained as a donation to the
Society’s funds. Regulations applicable only to
exhibits or exhibitors in which they are exhibited
and regulations governing exhibits published in the
Prize Schedule, Entry Form, Catalogue of Exhibits or
any official publication of the Society shall be part
of the Society’s Show Regulations.
Where the Mildura Show Society deems to be insufficient
entries in an event, the Mildura Show Society,
reserves the right to alter the prize money awarded.
STEWARDS
Stewards must be in attendance at the Show Grounds
at the appointed time to receive the exhibits and
are responsible that the exhibits are correctly
classed; all exhibits placed in each section
together ready for judging, and direct Judge to the
exhibit he was appointed to judge.
Stewards must supply Judge with award book of each
respective class and will attend on the Judges to
afford any information required, but will not say or
do anything to influence their decision. They must
not reveal the name of the owner or any exhibit or
repeat any remarks the judges may make to each
other.
Stewards will obtain prize cards and write the name
of the successful exhibits thereon, and affix same on
exhibit bearing the entry number of the award book;
they will obtain the award book of the Judges when
judging is completed and be responsible for delivery
to the Secretary after affixing prize cards.
No steward who is an exhibitor in his particular
class or classes shall remain in attendance while
sections in which he is interested are being judged.
41. Should the stewards suspect that any exhibit is
either diseased or dangerous; the stewards have the
right of refusing admittance or removing the exhibit
from the grounds at the expense of the exhibitor.
SHOW REGULATIONS CONTINUED JUDGES Judges will
receive an award book from the stewards of the class
in which they will judge, and will sign award books
in each section and deliver same to the stewards.
No Judge shall be an exhibitor in the class in which
he is acting as Judge.
The decision of the Judges shall be final with regard
to all prizes offered, except in case where protests
are duly lodged.
The Judges may award a second prize instead of a first
prize or may withhold a prize
altogether where there is only one exhibit or where
exhibits are not considered worthy. Every Judge
shall be instructed to pass out and notify the
Committee of the Society of any exhibit he may
detect to have been tampered with or improperly
dealt with.
AUCTION AND PRIVATE SALES
47. Auctioneers wishing to hold sales must notify
the Secretary of the Society at least seven (7) days
before the commencement of the Show. All auctioneers
disposing of goods on the grounds must be members of
the Society. A commission of five per cent will be
charged on all sales affected. For private sales
made by the Society, a commission of five per cent
will be charged with the exception of art exhibited
in the Realist Art Exhibition where the commission
shall be 20%.
APPENDIX (A) CRUELTY AND DOPING
CRUELTY to all animals is forbidden either in the
ring or in the paddock or elsewhere. An EXHIBITOR
found guilty of committing a definite act of cruelty
will be disqualified from taking part in all
competitions of the Show where the offence was
committed. The decision rests with a panel which
will comprise of the Judge(s), Senior Steward of the
Class concerned, the Society’s Chief Steward and the
Society’s Honorary Veterinary Surgeon from which
there is no further appeal.
DOPING - It is forbidden to administer any stimulant
or depressant to any animal, or to cause to be
administered in any way whatsoever either before the
start of a competition, or during a competition, or
on the previous day, under penalty of the owners
disqualification for life.
If during a competition or after a test which forms
part of a combined event, it is necessary to treat a
horse with a drug that is calming, anti-tetanic,
fortifying, stimulating, etc., the veterinary
surgeon appointed by the Society must be informed
immediately. He will verify the expediency of the
treatment given and then make a report to the
Council of Management who will decide whether the
horse is allowed to continue or is to be eliminated.
All stimulating or fortifying treatment not
considered necessary by the Society’s veterinary
surgeon and administered during or after a test
which continues on the following day(s) involves the
compulsory elimination of the horse.
If the treatment has been for colic only, the
Committee appointed to examine the condition of the
horse decides before the beginning of the next test
or event, whether the horse is in a fit state to
continue or should definitely be eliminated.
Where an animal has been eliminated for suspected
administration of any stimulant or depressant, the
Committee shall report the matter to the Council of
Management, who will consider within seven (7) days
what penalty shall be applied.
The Committee, as mentioned under regulation 47,
shall comprise of the Senior Steward and Judge(s) of
the Class concerned, the Society’s Chief Steward,
and the Society’s Veterinary Surgeon.
RANDOM TESTING FOR DRUGS
The Society may authorise random testing of any
animal on the Show Ground

The Committee shall also have the power to require
that statutory declarations be made concerning any
animal, exhibit, or competitor which they have
reason to suppose is being exhibited or competing
contrary to the rules connected with this
exhibition.
The Society invites the exhibition of articles other
than those for which prizes are offered at a normal
fee of 50 cents per entry, but such exhibits will be
non-competitive and for exhibition only.
No competition, other than the competitor before the
Judge, will be allowed in the arena during the
judging of Hunting Events. Only competitors in the
Section before the Judges to be within the arena
during judging. Competitors shall assemble in an
allotted area, and enter when called. They shall
return to the area while awaiting Judges decision
after having completed their course.
When measuring a horse, Galloway or pony, an
allowance of half (1/2) of an inch for shoes will be
made. Should an exhibit be measured with shoes on
and the exhibitor disagree with the Official
Measurer’s decision as to the height of the animal,
he may, should he desire, have it re-measured
without shoes. The Official Measurer may in his
discretion, request the removal of shoes from any
horse, Galloway or pony, prior to measurement.
Should a horse, Galloway or pony be found by the Official
to be above or under the height for the class in
which it has been entered, it will be transferred to
a corresponding horse, Galloway or pony class.
The Committee reserves the right to bring an event
forward provided all competitors
concerned agree.
Misbehavior by an exhibitor cancels any contract or
licence entered into or granted by
the Society. No alcohol is permitted on the Show
Arena.
Where entries are made in joint names or under a
partnership to be eligible for the concessions in
the entry fees as applying to members, the
partnership must be registered as a financial member
of the Society.
Where the member’s wife and/or family under the age
of 16 years are exhibiting, she/they
shall be eligible for entry fee concessions as
applying to the member.
Non-competitors must leave the ring at the
discretion of Senior Stewards.
IMPORTANT NOTICE TO ALL PERSONS ENTERING ANIMALS AND
APPLYING FOR TRADE SPACE
The Victorian Agricultural Societies’ Association
adopted a new Insurance Scheme at their Annual
Convention held at Cobram-Barooga in May 1987 - The
Society has implemented these policies from 2003
Show, as laid down by V.A.S.A.
1. Extension for Liability of Animals - The
Liability of Animals Policy is extended to all
owners or people responsible for animals, wishing to
participate in Show events. The Policy gives cover
from the time that they enter our Showgrounds until
they leave, but does not include transit cover. The
cover applies to Horses, Beef & Dairy Cattle, Sheep,
Goats, Pigs, Dogs (excluding dogs sanctioned by the
Kennel Control Council) and Cats.
The charge of 40 cents is on the basis of each time
an animal participates in any class (section).
2 Trade Liability - Public Liability Extension
Policy to cover Trade Space Liability. This
extension indemnifies the Trade Space holder for
their Legal Liability against bodily injury or
damage to property as a result of an occurrence
caused by negligence of the Trade Space holders or
as result of the Trade Space holder’s products. The
cost of the Trade Space Liability to our Society
will be $30.00 per site and is included in the site
fee.
NO ENTRIES WILL BE ACCEPTED UNLESS THE APPROPRIATE
CHARGES HAVE BEEN INCLUDED WITH YOUR ENTRY FEE

EXHIBITORS
All District Competitions are restricted to
exhibitors whose horses are owned and stabled within
120 kilometers of the Mildura Post Office for at
least six months prior to the 2008 Mildura Show and
riders in all District Events must also reside
within 120 kilometers of the Mildura Post Office for
at least six months prior to the 2008 Mildura Show.
Names of the horses must be given at time of entry
and in riding events the name of
rider must be given.
All exhibits to be in the grounds by 8.30 a.m. each
morning.
SCRATCHINGS
Entries in all Equestrian events, no matter how
made, are taken by the Society as genuine entries,
and no scratching will be accepted or a refund of
entry fees made unless the scratching is notified to
the Secretary at least seven (7) days prior to the first
day of the Show.
STABLING
Stabling for Equestrian Exhibits is available on the
Ground.
Stabling consists of Loose Boxes, Roofed Stalls,
Unroofed Stalls, Open Tie-Up Posts
and Rail Stalls.
All Stalls to be allocated - priority of allocation
is: 1. Stallions; 2. Others.
All stalls will be allocated by the Senior Stabling
Steward.
All competitors to abide by the decisions of the
stabling stewards. ANY COMPETITOR
PLACING HIS HORSE IN ANY UNAUTHORISED STALL OR
POSITION WILL BE
LIABLE TO DISQUALIFICATION BY THE STEWARDS.
NOTE: NO HORSES TO BE FED OR STABLED ON THE TROTTING
TRACK.
NO STATIONARY FLOATS PERMITTED ON THE TROTTING
TRACK.
STALLIONS AND COLTS:
Stallions and Colts must be correctly bitted and be
handled by an adult 18 years and
over.
CARAVAN PARKING
Caravan parking and trucks used for sleeping
quarters in close proximity to the horse
lines is available to EXHIBITORS ONLY. Parking space
must be booked when making
entries. Booking must be accompanied by fee of
$33.00 per caravan or truck and
lodged with entries, together with the size of the
caravan or truck.
No caravans will be permitted to be parked in the
stabling section before 9.00 a.m. on
Monday, 13th October.
Some horse floats may be allowed to stand in the
grounds all day for a fee of $5.00.
Application to be made to the Senior Stabling
Steward at the Showgrounds. Booking
will only be accepted at his discretion.
GRAND PARADE
A Parade may be organised for Saturday, 18th
October, 2008.
All prize winners must parade at appointed time of
Grand Parade.
If for any reason they must leave the grounds
earlier, prior permission must be obtained
From the Secretary
Prize money not collected at the Show may be
collected from the Secretary’s office
during the week following the Show. It is the
responsibility of the Exhibitor to claim
prize money.
